- Abstract: The natural pigments, from microbial source, have been very promising in several industrial sector such as food, textile, pharmaceutical and cosmetics. The preference for natural dyes in replacement of the synthetic ones resides in the fact that biopigments are not toxic to humans, are biodegradable and are not carcinogenic. Therefore, the search for these compounds in different organisms has been increasingly intensified, with emphasis on microalgae, the ones which produce significant amounts of chlorophylls and carotenoids, in addition to reproducing faster than other organisms (SEDJATI et al., 2019; VERMA et al., 2021). Chlorophylls are biopigments of great variety, existing in different types of structures. The main ones are the chlorophylls a and b, and they can be found in photosynthetic organisms (ZEPKA et al., 2019). The chlorophylls are part of the human diet and they are beneficial to health, as they have antioxidant, antigenotoxic and antimutagenic properties (SINGH et al., 2020). Thus, this work aimed to optimizate the obtainment of chlorophyll a from the microalgae Dunaliella salina.
