- Abstract: The competitive intelligence (CI) process targets the collection of internal and external company data and transforms it into useful information inside a competence environment. Although logic indicates that CI is influenced by the capacity of information technology, there are still some gaps concerning the subjacent mechanics that determine the relationship between information technology and the CI process. The present research contributes to the resolution of this question, first by presenting a review of the literature that addresses the constructs: the capability of information technology, the CI process, and its relationship. Second, this research presents a model that synthesizes the constructs and concepts set forth in the existing literature, especially regarding the influence of IT capabilities: infrastructure, human resources, and the intangible assets in the four main stages of the CI process, which are planning, data collection, data analysis and communication/diffusion
