Treatment of landfill leachate by physicochemical, electrolytic, and ozone processes (2021)

- Abstract: Landfill leachate constitutes a complex matrix of contaminants that need to be treated prior to disposal. In this study, landfill leachate was subjected to physicochemical, electrolytic, and ozone processes, alone and in combination, followed by filtration. Raw leachate had a pH of 7.22, temperature of 25.5 °C, conductivity of 5.85 mS/cm, phenolic content of 3.8 mg/L, chemical oxygen demand (COD) of 5929 mg/L, and color index of 6318.2 (mg/L Pt-Co). Combination of the three processes followed by filtration reduced COD by 84.95%, phenolic content by 89.48%, and color index by 98.7%.
