- Abstract: Nowadays, the production of sustainable fuels and interesting molecules specifically from lignocellulosic materials are amongst the most important research topics. One fundamental step in the process for biomass transformation is the pretreatment, which increases the enzyme digestibility of the material in the subsequent hydrolysis step. A new promising approach is the use of advanced oxidative process assisted by HC (hydrodynamic cavitation). In this context, sugarcane bagasse pretreatment by this HC-assisted technology using alkaline solution containing ozone was evaluated. This process was compared with the other options of HC-assisted pretreatment. Composition of untreated bagasse was compared to the composition of the pretreated one (Table 1), showing HC-assisted alkaline ozone pretreatment was effective to reduce the lignin content in biomass. Also, this alternative was the better option considering the release of sugars in a subsequent enzymatic hydrolysis of the pretreated sugarcane bagasse, thus showing the potential of the technique for use in lignocellulosic biorefineries.
