- Abstract: Polymer gels are very important for the development of high-performance materials in different scientific areas. Nanostructural aspects linked to molecular and intermolecular arrangements establish the properties and operating capacities that can be widely explored in the areas of transformation, recognition, and molecular and ionic transport processes. Polymeric gels encompass not only the traditional chemical or covalent polymers but also are formed by intermolecular physical interactions that allow the generation of stimuli-responsive systems. In this chapter, the classifications and characteristics correlated to polymer gels are elucidated.
