- Abstract: Nanotechnology based on intermolecular arrangements of molecules or atoms develops properly by the capacity of the formation of different structures and geometries directed by the functional groups and forces of interaction. Efforts to achieve control of such arrangements are a major challenge in soft-matter research. Supramolecular gels emerge as odd systems in their occurrence is due to the ordered one dimensional nanostructured building block forming fibers that immobilize an enormous amount of solvent. The structural and electronic complexity of these systems allows the obtaining of materials with reversible characteristics for use in several technological areas. Herein are outlined some key concepts and some studies and applications of this class of fascinating and very promising material for the improvement and evolution of functional materials.
