- Abstract: Biosurfactants are multifunctional biomolecules usually produced by a wide range of microorganisms which mainly includes bacteria, yeast, and fungi. Biosurfactants possess various important properties such as excellent surface activity and emulsification properties. These are non-toxic and biodegradable molecules commonly found in different chemical structures including glycolipids, lipopeptides, fatty acids, and neutral lipids. Due to these important properties biosurfactants are being used in several industries like agriculture, petroleum refinery, cosmetics, food, detergents, medicine, etc. However, recently, biosurfactants have attracted a great deal of attention from the scientific community because they are emerging as economically viable and eco-friendly substitutes for the green synthesis of nanomaterials. Considering these facts, in this chapter, we have focused on recent advances in biosurfactants in nanotechnology and their applications in different fields. In addition, various other related aspects such as types and properties of biosurfactants, conventional methods for biosurfactants production, etc. have also been discussed.
