- Abstract: It is a permanent job the searching for restorative odontological materials with adequate abrasion strength, marginal adaptation, natural reproduction of tooth color and strength to masticatory forces. Composite resin nowadays present satisfactory wear strength. At this paper, is presented a clinical case where defective amalgams were substituted by composite resin. At the local Posgraduation Clinic, after clinical/radiographic verification and anamnesis of a patient, it was detected that amalgam in teeth 24 and 25 (presenting fractures, high corrosion degree and marginal gaps) would be substituted by composite resin. So, were made color selection, absolute isolation and cavity preparation, with application of calcium hydroxide cement and glass ionomer, followed by phosphoric acid, cleaning and drying. The adhesive system used was photopolymerized. After the polyester individual matrix be adapted and immobilized with a wood piece, little portions of resin were inserted in cavity and photopolymerizated. Gross material excesses were eliminated after remotion of isolating apparatus. A more delicate occlusal checking, finishing and polishing were realized 1 week later.
