Ridge augmentation by guided osseous regeneration for implant instalation: case report (2006)

- Abstract: The rehabilitation of edentulous ridges was favored after osseointegration implants discovery. However, the absence of adequate bone height and volume can prevent implant installation. Many bone grafts techniques were proposed for correction of ridge deformities, including autografts, allografts and alloplastic materials. Autografts obtained from intra-oral sites show the highest success rates. However, the surgical technique is critical due to two operated sites, which difficult its use in certain clinical situations. To solve this problems, the use of guided bone regeneration by positioning of a membrane barrier associated or not with allografts was proposed. In this case report, we describe a case of a male patient showing ridge volume deficiency after teeth and a previous implant loss. For ridge deformity correction, it was performed an allograft with positioning of a e-PTFE membrane before implant installation. During implant surgery, it can be noted the increase in volume and density of bone, allowing the positioning of osseointegrated implants and oral rehabilitation of 100% of success after more than 5 years of follow-up
