- Abstract: Laterally positioned activated osteoperiosteal flap and in situ root demineralization have been currently proposed one apart of each other for coverage of denuded root surface, with promising results.Passanezi et al had associated these techniques and mentioned good clinical results, but without histological evaluation. According to, the proposal of this issue was to show if the histological events that play a role in the successful clinical result are compatible with successful biological result. 12 dogs were selected.Gingival recession was created on the maxillary canine teeth. 42 days after, an activated osteoperiosteal flap was raised on both sides and phosphoric acid solution was applied solely to the experimental root. The osteoperiosteal flaps were then laterally displaced and sutured so as to cover the entire denuded root surface in both sides. The animals were sacrificed and block sections for histological study were obtained at 7, 14, 30 and 90 days postoperatively. The histological findings indicated an accelerated wound healing over the roots that received acid conditioning, resulting in a cementum deposition on the root. The results support that in situ root demineralization in association with osteoperiosteal activated flap may result in a more extensive area of reinsertion and a lesser epithelial apical migration, thus allowing the attainment of a biological process suggestive of promising clinical applicability to treat denuded root
