- Abstract: With intention to provide large extensively lesions teeth, generally caused for caries or fractures, the reconstruction is a procedure very used in the dentistry. Actually, the aesthetic restorative materials are glass ionomer and composite resin obtaining good results in relation its resistance of masticatory force, becoming these applicable materials to this procedure that commonly is known as core build-up. The use of the restorative materials establishes an adequate support to get the function through the replacement of the dental with an indirect restoration. Associated to these restorative materials, the necessity of retention of the same ones was established through the cavity modifications, adhesive system and the posts its necessary, because first evaluate the integrity of the tooth to choose the restorative procedure. This work by means of a literature revision illustrated with clinical cases comes to argue two types of aesthetic direct restorative materials, besides to discuss the types of retentions associates the presence or absence of pulp vitality, indicating when should use to obtain a clinical success procedure
