- Abstract: At present a big problem that spreads in the humanity is the environmental pollution, caused by the intense anthropic activity of the human beings to the ecosystem. Treating the discharge of toxic effluents without treatment and proper management is seeing that to interfere directly with the quality of water available for consumption as well as with aquatic life in rivers, lakes and seas. Therefore, the search for methods that soften or eradicate this problem has intensified in recent years. In this sense, heterogeneous photocatalysis emerged as a possibility to attenuate this problematic [1][2]. This study aims at the g-C3N4 / xerogel carbon / TiO2 hybrid photocatalyst development, focusing on increasing the photocatalytic degradation process quantum efficiency of the persistent organic pollutant, 4-chlorophenol. The experimental procedure consists in the titanium metallic dissolution from the use of hydrofluoric acid and nitric acid, then g-C3N4 was added to the solution of Ti ions, and then the suspension Ti4+/g-C3N4 was deposited in a dispersion of tannin (carbon xerogel precursor). The sample produced was calcined at 400 ºC. Then it was tested its photocalitic activity, under light that simulates solar radiation in the degradation of 4- chlorophenol. The mainly results was the pollutant degradation more than 80 %, TiO2 was crystallized as anatase on the samples, according to the Raman spectroscopy and XRD techniques, and were detected the elements Ti,O,C and N on the samples by EDS mapping.
