- Abstract: The patterns of nutrient uptake and translocation remain unknown for most species of Brazilian native trees. Matching nutrient availability to tree demand is a key to increase wood productivity. Using nondestructive and user-friendly microprobe X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy (μ-XRF), we investigated the radial distribution of Ca, K and S along the trunk of Enterolobium contortisiliquum. The elemental variation trends showed that Ca was mostly present in the earlywood, with decreasing trend during the dry season. Potassium and sulfur profiles were positively correlated, they presented higher levels at the initial growth period. The results presented herein of temporal process of elements uptake foster better fertilization strategy for each stage of growth and understanding of the influence of the climate conditions in the tree species behavior
