- Abstract: Purpose To describe, by telephone, the nursing orientation to the patients with cleft lip and palate submitted to plastic surgery and who, by any reason, need to use the telephone to cornrnunicate the post-operatory events andl or receive nursing orientation; to elaborate a type of "check list" protocol fulfilled by the nurse, to gather information and events, by telephone; to propose and to standardize nursing intervention. Method The information gathered in the protocol will be used for the formulation of nursing diagnosis. Nursing di agnosis will help in the identification of the need of nursing care for those patients and in the proposal of nursing interventions. Results With this type of attendance, we collaborate with the survey of the frequency of events in the late post-op eratory phase and in the identification of the need of care for the patients who are in the surgical rehabilita tion process in our institution, after the discharge. Conclusion There is a need to standardize the nursing management's and interventions based on the law ofthe profes sional practice, on the ethical and moral principIes of Brazilian nursing. It is important to control the fre quency of that type of attendance by telephone and of the events in the late post-operatory phase. We suggest the implantation of free and direct telephone call for the patients.
