- Abstract: Amyloidosis is a term that refers to a heterogeneous group of disorders in which proteins are deposited extracellularly in the tissue in the form of insoluble fibrils. In patients undergoing hemodialysis for more than 10 years, it is the major constituent found in b2-microglobulin. A male patient, 60 years old, non-smoking, non-alcoholic, presented with chronic renal failure and hemodialysis since 1989, with a history of 3 unsuccessful kidney transplants. The patient attended the dental clinic presenting, as a main complaint, an increase of bilateral volume in the tongue for 18 months, with no difficulty in chewing or pain sensitivity in the tongue. During the clinical examination, an increase of bilateral volume in the presence of yellowish nodules, consistent on palpation, was observed. Incisional biopsy was performed and the histologic diagnosis was amyloidosis. The patient was referred to a nephrologist for knowledge and monitoring
