A new species of Leposoma (Squamata: Gymnophthalmidae) with four fingers from the Atlantic Forest central corridor in Bahia, Brazil (2013)

- Abstract: Leposoma sinepollex sp. nov., uma nova espécie do grupo scincoides é descrita para uma região montanhosa do Corredor Central da Mata Atlântica no Sul da Bahia. A nova espécie é caracterizada por escamas dorsais longas e ventrais lanceoladas dispostas diagonalmente, frontonasal única e lisa, ausência de polegar, terceiro artelho maior ou igual ao quarto, ausência de estriações na face ventral da cabeça, parietais mais longas do que largas e tão longas quanto a interparietal, 27–29 dorsais, 25–29 escamas ao redor do meio do corpo, 17–19 ventrais, 12–14 poros totais no macho (ausentes nas fêmeas), 9–10 e 9–11 lamelas infradigitais no IV dedo e IV artelho, respectivamente e dicromatismo sexual marcado com pigmentação negra nas regiões ventrais do macho, creme na fêmea. A nova espécie é morfologicamente semelhante a Leposoma nanodactylus com o qual compartilha, entre outros caracteres, a divisão da primeira supraocular. Análises filogenéticas de 981 pb de sequências combinadas (cyt b+ ND4) recuperaram L. sinepollex sp. nov. e L. nanodactylus como espécies irmãs com elevado suporte (PP=1,0; BP=100). A nova espécie e Leposoma nanodactylus formam o grupo irmão das demais espécies da Floresta Atlântica, com L. baturitensis sendo a primeira linhagem a divergir nessa radiação. Discutem-se a relação de parentesco e a distribuição dos Leposoma da Floresta Atlântica bem como possíveis cenários para a origem da nova espécie
