Clonal relationships determined by multilocus sequence typing among enteropathogenic Escherichia coli isolated in Brazil (2009)

- Abstract: Les infections a Escherichia coli enteropathogene (EPEC) sont les principales causes de la diarrhee infantile dans les pays en voie de developpement. Le typage de sequences multilocus (multilocus sequence typing ou MLST) permet de caracteriser les souches bacteriennes en fonction des sequences de fragments internes de genes domestiques. On connait peu de chows des souches EPEC analysees par MLST au Bresil. Dans cette etude, une collection variee de 29 souches d'EPEC isolees de patients souffrant de diarrhee, admis a 1'hopital universitaire de Ribeirao Preto, a ete caracterisee par MLST. L' analyse des souches a revele la presence de 22 types differents de sequences, parmi lesquels pres de la moitie (48 %) etaient nouveaux, indiquant une haute diversity genotypique. Les 22 types de sequences ont ete divises par eBURST en 12 complexes clonaux. Il n'a pas ete possible de correler les EPEC typiques et atypiques avec les autres souches dans la base de donnees du MLST. Cette etude est la premiere a analyser les souches d'EPEC d'Amerique du sud comprises dans le MLST de E. coli. Neuf (31 %) des 29 souches font partie du complexe Clonal CC10, qui est le complexe Clonal principal de la base de donnees qui comprend 174 souches et 86 types de sequences differents, ce qui suggere que ces souches peuvent constituer le groupe d'E. coli pathogene intestinal le plus important dans le monde. Les relations genetiques entre les souches EPEC, E. coli entero-hemorragique et E. coli entero-agregant typiques et atypiques n'ont pas ete etablies par le MLST
