- Abstract: Abstract: the purpose of this paper is to briefly present some aspects of brownfield management public policies from Brazilian e German point of view. In Brazil, despite the lack of a federal public police, São Paulo State has approved specific rules to deal with contaminated areas. Topics that could be target of scientific studies were pointed. In Germany there is political will to reduce -daily land consumption- and a broad legal framework on brownfield issue has been approved. The research programs and projects tend to be practice-oriented and in many cases the University and municipal bodies act as partners. Brazil has a lot of work to do regarding brownfield issue including the enaction of a federal public policy. Experiences in Germany show that it is essential to have political will and cooperation between the different political levels. In many cases the Universities, due to their knowledge and expertise, act as partner on the redevelopment programs. Partnerships between German and Brazilian universities would be welcome as there is a wide range of opportunities for academic post-graduation studies and researches focused on human resources capacitation on environmental management
