Pleomorphic adenoma of the palate: report of a case (2006)

- Abstract: Salivary gland tumors are rare. The pleomorphic adenoma or benign mixed tumor is a salivary gland neoplasm which occurs mainly in the parotid gland, followed by the submandibular gland and minor salivary glands, in which the most frequent location is the palate. A case of a female patient, 44 years old who had a sessile nodule, resilient, located on the paramedian limit between hard and soft palate, asymptomatic, it was the same color of normal mucosa, measured 2 cm of diameter and had a three months evolution. The presumptive diagnosis was pleomorphic adenoma, adenocarcinoma or mucoepidermoid tumor. After the incisional biopsy, microscopy showed, in the depth, neoplastic formation encapsulated, constituted of proliferation of mioepithelial cells, some fusiforms and plasmocyt-like cels arranged in pilles and cord in a hialin matrix, which led to the diagnosis of a pleomorphic adenoma. Thus, a chirurgical excision was performed. The patient is fine, without recurrence in her 5-month follow up
