Edemogenic test study on the folgogen capacity of four root canal filling cements: intrafill, pulpfill sealapex and sealer26 (2006)

- Abstract: The final stage of endodontic treatment is filling and sealing the root canal system with gutta-percha points and root canal sealers. The root canal sealers are irritating to the periapical tissues when flowing out through the apical foramen. To evaluate the tissue response to the flogogen capacity of the root canal sealers Intrafill, Pulp Fill, Sealapex and Sealer 26, it was applied the edemogenic test, which quantifies the swelling formed consequently to the contact of these cements with the tissues. Fourty-six male Wistar rats were used and distributed into eight groups of six animals. The groups were divided according the four sealers and two post-surgical periods (three and six hours). Evin's blue was perfused through the caudal artery, and subsequently, after freshly mixed, the sealers were injected in the subtegument dorsal region of the animals. After three and six hours the animals were sacrificed and the samples were evaluated at the spectrophotometer. According the results here obtained, it was concluded that the exudate intensity was statistically similar at the two postsurgical periods for all sealers, and Sealapex and Sealer 26 were less irritating to the tissues than Intrafill and Pulp Fill
