- Abstract: Food disorders (FD) are defined as deviations of food behavior which may lead to obesity, anorexia (A), Bulimia (N) and the compulsive eating. These patients must be seen by a multi-professional team, and the dental surgeon, the first professional to detect the early signs of these diseases. These patients present alterations such as dental wear, caused by stomach or food acids and the manifestations of food disorders may involve an asymptomatic increase of the parotids, xerostomia, oral mucosa irritations, cheilitis, dental sensitivity to temperature alterations, anterior open bite and radicular (root) caries. This study aimed at inserting the dental surgeon in the multi-professional team, as well as elaborating a protocol for preventive dental assistance and treatment, besides providing an integration of the dental treatment with the multi-disciplinary team. The team with the Hospital das Clínicas at Ribeirão Preto, SP, is comprised of 1 Psychiatrist, 4 Nutritionists, 2 Psychologists, 1 General Clinician, 1 Speech Therapist and a dental surgeon, the last member to be inserted in the team. One may conclude that the interaction of the multiprofessional team is extremely important and the DS may contribute in the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of oral alterations, providing these patients with benefits in terms of oral and general health
