Atypical evolution after extraction of inferior third molar (2006)

- Abstract: Complications associates with extraction of third molar despite uncommon can occur in some cases. The mean complication is infection (alveolitis) treated local and systemically, therefore, rarely can to spread to fasciais spaces. This report is about an atypical evolution of extraction of inferior third molar in an young, leucoderma, healthful patient that presented pain and edema, without clinical and radiographics signals of infection, 10 days after the extraction of tooth 48. The protocol of treatment of alveolitis was initiated, however 11 days later regression was not observed. At this time there was formation of an abscess spreading to submandibular space of the affected side. The antibiotic was changed but was necessary to perform an extrabuccal draining. Many systemic and local factors can be considered as cause of this abscess and requires attention of the dentist for the pre and postoperative systemics cares
