- Abstract: In function of the increased demand for physical exercises practiced either at day or night hours, new researches targetting differences of performance along the 24-h cycle are necessary. One parameter of physical performance that has been widely used in sport science is the Heart Rate (HR), which is used for prescriptions of intensity in physical training and in fitness tests. In this study, we observed the variation of the maximum HR (HRmax) of a group of individuals during a maximum physical exercise at 09:00h, 12:00h, 15:00h, 18:00h, 21:00h and 24:00h, distributed in six days. The group of subjects was constituted by eleven physically active males aged 22.0±1.6 years, with the following anthropometric characteristics: weight = 74.6±8.9kg, height = 174.4 ± 7.3cm and body fat percentage = 9.2±3.7%. We adopted the progressive treadmill test, according to the Bruce's Protocol, up to the maximum capacity of each individual. The timetable of the test was randomized and the individuals were verbally motivated during the exercise. Heart rate data were collected with a cardiofrequencimeter (Polar, Vantage NV). The statistical treatment of data were performed through the analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Paired Student t-test. The results of the HRmax obtained along the timetable are depicted as the mean value (beats/minute) and standard deviation as follows 09:00h = 157.7±7.1, 12:00h = 197.4±7.9, 15:00h = 196.0±7.8, 18:00h = 194.0±6.4, 21:00h = 194.9 ± 7.8, and24:00h = 191.2±5.8. It is possible to observe that the HRmax presents slight variations along the day with significant differences between 12:00h and 24:00h. We conclude that the evaluation of either physical activity and the performance
