Influence of the treatment with chlorpropamide on inflammatory response in sodium monoglutamate obese rats (2005)

- Abstract: Objetivo: Introduction: The acute inflammatory response is reduced in sodium monoglutamate (MSG) obese rats (Toledo et al., SBFTE p.151, 2002). Objective: In the present study we investigated the influence of chlorpropamide (Chl) treatment on the altered inflammatory response in the MSG obese rats. Métodos e Resultados: Methods: Newborn Wistar rats were injected with MSG (4g/kg/day/s.c) during 5 days. Three months after, the inflammatory response was studied by carrageenan induced paw edema (200 mg/paw) in MSG-control, MSG-Chl (200mg/kg, per os, by 7 days), and normal (C) rats. Results: The reduced inflammatory response observed in MSG animals was reversed by the treatment with Chl (1h: MSG= 0,19±0,03mL: MSG+Chl= 0,17±0,03mL; C= 0,50±0,07mL; 2h: MSG= 0,43±0,04mL; MSG+Chl= 0,53±0,08mL*; C= 1,07±0,09mL; 4h: MSG= 0,61±0,06mL; MSG+Chl= 0,67±0,09mL*; C= 1,27±0,09mL; 24h: MSG= 0,04±0,01mL; MSG+Chl= 0,08±0,02mL; C= 0,05±0,01mL) MSG (n=12), MSG+Chl (n=10) Control (n=8). Conclusões: Conclusion: The chlorpropamide treatment was effective in restoring the decreased inflammatory response observed in MSG obese rats.
