- Abstract: Este trabalho objetiva investigar o movimento de vigas sujeitas a severas cargas impulsivas, suficientes para provocar a separação da mesma de seus apoios. O comportamento da viga após a falha é completamente revelado pela análise e demonstra-se que a viga altera sua forma mesmo após a falha de material que ocorre nos suportes. A tese se inicia com uma introdução ao fenômeno de impacto em estruturas em geral, onde são discutidas várias peculiaridades desta área de conhecimento. Para se determinar o movimento da viga após a falha são necessárias as equações de movimento, apresentadas no Capítulo 2, juntamente com uma revisão da literatura sobre impacto em vigas. Também é necessário o uso de um critério de falha para se estabelecer o instante de separação das vigas de seus apoios, o que é explorado no Capítulo 3. Aí se apresenta os principais resultados obtidos pelo autor na área de falha. Inclui-se uma revisão do modelo teórico baseado na Mecânica do Dano do Continuum juntamente com suas aplicações para prover falha em vigas sujeitas a impacto transversal. Nos Capítulos 4 e 5, o movimento pós-falha de uma viga sob impulso é obtido, determinando-se que a viga muda seu perfil de deformação à medida que esta viaja livre dos suportes, após a falha
