- Resumo: Treated domestic wastewater reuse from stabilization ponds have been increasing importance lately as real alternative in agricultural irrigation. In São Paulo State (Brazil) where there are 195 these kind of treatment systems the potential reuse in agricultural irrigation is very significative. The goal of this study was investigate the occurence of E. coli 0157, an important pathogen, in treated sewage from stabilizatin ponds systems from Lins City (São Paulo State é Brazil) with potential agricultural reuse as a tool at the assesment these waters and provide information about E. coli 0157 in environmental samples. The analytical method was qualitative using typical colonies at sorbitol Mc Conkey from bacterial growth at EC medium. These colonies were confirmed by serological. The results showed E. coli 0157 strains presence in 4 per cent of the isolated strains (149 strains). It could be observed that researches with this approach are fundamental to minimize public health risks related to wastewater reuse in agricultural irrigation. (AU)
