- Abstract: Objetivo: Objectives: The aim of this work was to evaluate the potency of CPA, an agonist of A1 adenosine receptors, in isolated right atria from treadmill trained rats. Métodos e Resultados: Methods and Results: Male wistar rats were exercised in a treadmill, five days a week, during 60 minutes each session for two weeks. The right atria were isolated and concentration-response curves to CPA were obtained. No changes were observed in body weight after two weeks of physical activity (261±7 g vs 249±4 g for sedentary and trained animals, respectively). Heart rate was significantly reduced in trained group (366±6 beats/min) as compared to sedentary animals (396±9 beats/min) while blood pressure values were not different (104±2; 102±4 mmHg for sedentary and running rats, respectively). Exercise training for two weeks did not modify the spontaneous beating rate (305±13 vs 275±9 beats/min for sedentary and trained animals, respectively). A 10-fold rightward shift of concentration-response curves to CPA was found in trained animals (7.90±0.12) as compared to sedentary animals (8.93±0.25) at pEC50 level. Conclusões: Conclusion: Exercise training in treadmill for two weeks induced a desensitization of negative chronotropic responses mediated by A1 receptors in rat isolated right atria
