- Abstract: High (HIII), Low (LIII) mice and F1 (HIII x LIII) hybrids were i.p. inoculated with 5x106 yeast cells of P.brasiliensis (Pb18) and analyzed, in the course of 12 weeks of infection, for delayed type hypersensitivity reactions (DTH), titers of specific antibody isotypes and number of viable yeast cells in the lungs, spleen and liver (CFU/g of tissue). The results showed that HIII mice were able to better control the infection than LIII mice up to the 8th week, but neither HIII nor LIII mice could eliminate all the fungal cells from the tissues up to the 12th week. At the 2nd week after P. brasiliensis inoculation, HIII mice presented increased levels of all anti-P. brasiliensis isotypes. However, from the 4th week on, LIII mice showed specific antibody titers as high as HIII lineage, with IgG3 levels being the only exception. HIII mice showed much more intense DTH reactions than LIII mice in the whole course of the infection. F1hybrids mice were found to be resistant to P. brasiliensis infection, presenting low production of specific isotypes, except for IgG2a, showing high capacity of eliminating fungal cells from their tissues
