Two new Heterocharax species (Teleostei: Ostariophysi: Characidae), with a redescription of H. macrolepis (2000)

- Abstract: Duas espécies do gênero Heterocharax são descritas das bacias Amazônica e do rio Orinoco. Heterocharax virgulatus, espécie nova, ocorre nos rios Negro, Tapajós e afluentes do amazonas situados entre as duas drenagens, e no médio rio Orinoco. Heterocharax leptogrammus, espécie nova, ocorre no rio Negro e alto rio Orinoco. As duas espécies se assemelham à H. macrolepis, única espécie anteriormente incluída em Heterocharax, e são por ora incluídas neste gênero, até que a questão das relações entre as espécies atualmente incluídas em Heterocharacini, seja resolvida. Heterocharax macrolepis, da Guiana, do rio Amazonas incluindo afluentes entre os rios Tapajós e Tefé, tributários do alto Amazonas, e médio e alto rio Orinoco é descrita visando o esclarecimento de problemas relativos à identificação desta espécie
