Abstract: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of permanent teeth erupted in preschoolchildren. A cross-sectional study was carried out with a sample of 2408 children whose ages ranged from 3 to 5, enrolled in public and privated schools in the city of Bauru-SP-Brazil. To do so, a visual inspection was accomplished, having as objective to detect the presence of permanent teeth in the dental arches of those children. Among boys, 9,8% were in mixed dentition, the same happening with 11,3% of girls, without differences related to gender. A precocius eruption of permanent teeth was observed in children from public schools, when compared to children from private schools (p<0,0001), as tested by Chi-square. This tendency of precocious eruption of permanent teeth in preschoolchildren enphasizes the importance of developing preventive programs in Public Health for this age group.
