- Resumo: In this article, we shall present some modes of theoretical production in psychotherapy's history and relate them to contemporary clinical problems. We shall affirm that Freud and his followers, as well as Reich and Lowen, consider that the pathology and the constitution of the self derive from the destinations given to the drive forces. We shall present our thesis that this theoretical mode does not provide a satisfactory answer to the contemporary clinical problems, especially in the cases labelled as borderline. We shall enounce some aspects of embodiment in Winnicott, whose theory brings the body to the centre of the scene for health improvement or, when it is absent, the emergence of illness, demonstrating that the constitution of the self depends upon another's body
