- Resumo: Enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC) is a leading cause of infant diarrhea and still an important public health in Brazil and developing countries. In vitro models as the bacterial adhesion to cultured cells are an important tool to study the bacterial pathogenicity, but are limited. Our aim is to develop an experimental infection in the AIRmin and AIRmax, with EPEC O111:H- and evaluated the protection ability of human secretory IgA and avian IgY. Groups of mice with different ages were infected with several doses by the intraperitonial (ip), intragastric (ig) or oral routes. The values of the LD50 for the AIRmin mice infected by ip and ig route were calculated. The mice infected by oral route the evaluation was made by the histological analysis of the intestines with optical and electronic microscopy. The study of EPEC experimental infection is important to a better understanding of the effect of antibodies towards the different virulence factors, regarding the design of immunobiologic products for active or passive immunization
