- Abstract: Among other aspects, longevity of a prothesis cemented to dental structure depends from strength of cementing agents to axial compression. At pertinent assays, the American Dental Associaton (ADA) Specification, until 2000, established that the cylindrical specimen should be 12 mm high x 6 mm in diameter, what implied in a 2:1 relation. At the similar Specification from International Organization for Standards (ISO), this specimen always was 6 mm high x 4 mm in diameter, with a 1,5:1 relation. The purpose at this study was verify if exist difference between rupture stress in axial compressive resistance assays involving cylindrical samples with different height/diameter relations. So, two groups (with 2:1 and 1,5:1 relations) with ten zinc phosphate cement specimens each were composed. Any specimen was imersed in deyonized water at 37?C during 24 hours, until the assay performed in a universal assays machine (EMIC), regulated to 0,5 mm/s velocity and coupled with a 200 kgf loading cell. Statistically, it was detected significant difference between stress rupture values of the studied groups, with 441,37 kgf/cm2 to that with 2:1 relation and 548,54 kgf/cm2 to that with 1,5:1, what indicated that results of works employing different height/diameter relations cannot be comparated
