- Abstract: Estudamos farmacologicamente a resposta inflamatória pulmonar em ratos investigando a infiltração celular, edema e a reatividade das vias aéreas, buscando compreender os mecanismos reguladores daquela resposta. Investigamos a relevância dos hormônios sexuais femininos no desenvolvimento da asma, visando uma me-lhor compreensão da "asma pré-menstrual". Avaliamos o papel modulador da glândula submandibular e do trauma isquêmico intestinal sobre o desenvolvimento da lesão pulmonar aguda, e nesse contexto, enfocamos a relevância do sistema linfático para o desenvolvimento da lesão pulmonar. A asma ocupacional (efeito da exposição ao formaldeído) e o refluxo gastroesofágico (exposição das vias aéreas ao suco gástrico) também foram enfocados. O fio condutor do trabalho está inserido na percepção de que o organismo, quando submeti-do a condição de perda de equilíbrio, aciona mecanismos que, em vez de impedir a deflagração do processo, redimensionam a resposta inflamatória pulmonar, ofertando a base para que o processo de reparo e manuten-ção da homeostasia seja construído
