Hummingbird-pollinated floras at three atlantic forest sites (2000)

- Abstract: Flores ornitófilas e sua interação com beija-flores foram estudadas em três áreas de Mata Atlântica situadas em diferentes altitudes no sudeste do Brasil. Dentre as três áreas, registramos um conjunto de 86 espécies nativas de flores polinizadas por beija-flores. O índice de Jaccard indica que a similaridade florística entre as comunidades de altitude é maior do que destas para a comunidade situada ao nível do mar. A riqueza de espécies é ligeiramente maior na comunidade de espécies ornitófilas ao nível do mar que aquelas situadas em altitudes mais elevadas. Bromeliaceae é a família de maior representatividade, contribuindo com 36 por cento da flora ornitófila e possui 33 por cento das flores mais ricas em néctar. O padrão de floração da maiorea das espécies é anual. Um Phaethornithinae, Ramphodon naevius, é o principal polinizador das espécies ornitófilas da mata ao nível do mar, ao passo que uma espécie de Phaethornithinae, Phaethornis eurynome, e outra de Trochilinae, Leucochloris albicollis, apresentam ampla sobreposição no uso de flores, sendo os polinizadores principais das espécies ornitófilas nas matas de altitude. Espécies de Phaethornithinae são os principais polinizadores de flores ornitófilas na Mata Atlântica no sudeste do Brasil. Estas áreas podem ser consideradas tão ricas quanto outras regiões da América do Sul ou América Central em flores polinizdas por beija-flores. As floras das Américas Central e Sul apresentam história evolutiva maisantiga que a flora Norte Americana no que diz respeito a interação com beija-flores
